Message from the Rector President, San Beda College
REV.  FR. ALOYSIUS A. MARANAN, OSB

On behalf of the Benedictine Community, the faculty and administrators of San Beda College, it is my honour and pleasure to welcome you all to our campus, and to our guests who have come from afar, welcome as well to the Philippines.

For the next two days, we come together with a common pursuit- that is, to increase and deepen our knowledge and understanding of how we do, lead and manage business and innovations, big and small, in a region that is immensely steeped in history, wrapped in a tapestry flanguage and culture, forged by ancient religions and philosophy, and driven by the challenges of globalization and regional cooperation.
Given the multi-layered phenomena of business, entrepreneurship and management in Asia, I believed that our exchanges should all make
us feel good as scholars if we generate more questions and research hypotheses than answers. Part of the excitement of the conferences such as these is that they allow us to step back, re-examine our assumptions, validate observations and possibly establish some trends, no matter how tentative.

In the next two days, let our campus be your space for exploring, questioning and celebrating our “Asian-ness” in doing business and let us know how we can make things easy for you all. May this conference be a productive endeavour for all of us, and I pray that God reward us with wisdom, humility, and a sense of wonder and fun. Let us now begin to listen to your stories. And in true Filipino tradition, let me say MABUHAY!

Message from the Dean
NAPOLEON K. JUANILLO, JR., Ph.D.

The 2012 International Conference on Business, Entrepreneurship and Management is designed as a public space where educators and scholars from Southeast Asia can engage in a lively and intelligent exchange and discussion of scientific research, scholarly reflections, case studies and emergent knowledge and questions around the theme “Spirituality, Values, Ethics and Culture:  Capturing the Asian Business Flavour”.

The myriad topics, presentations and methodological approaches that dissect, structure and make sense of the phenomenon of doing business in Asia within countries or across the region using the prism of culture, values, ethics, and spiritual beliefs offer us an opportunity to generate a better understanding of and practical lessons in doing business in this part of the world.  They also provide on occasion to deepen our knowledge and appreciation of our selves.  Indeed, each of the countries in Southeast Asia provides us with such a rich landscape of intermingling colours, contextual layers and flavours, some still presumably unexamined that can potentially generate “discovery” moments for participants.

I will be delighted to welcome you to San Beda College and Manila this coming January 2012 where I hope you will find the conference discussions and debate enjoyable, stimulating, and valuable, and find time to experience the charm of our small and over a century-old campus in an abbey and soak in the sights and sounds of this throbbing metropolis.

Message from the Vice Dean

The 2012International Conference on Business, Entrepreneurship and Management is the first in San Beda College.  This conference is an avenue for local and foreign business practitioners, scholars and students to share and learn new knowledges, knowledges that are product of years of experience and research.  This is also an opportunity for local and foreign students to converse and to have a glimpse of their respective cultures and practices.  In this conference, they will not only learn but also appreciate the plurality of principles and perspectives.

This conference is San Beda College’s manifestation of its commitment to academic excellence.  As an institution of higher learning, San Beda College is a venue not only for transmission of knowledge and formation of the young but also for the search and construction of new knowledges.  New knowledges needed to enhance quality of teaching and instruction, to sustain production of wealth and to support efforts for the improvement of quality of life.

We invite everyone to participate in this rare gathering of Asian business practitioners, scholars and students and savour the richness of oriental cultures and practices.
